Throughout the year the club organises various open competition events in road racing and hillclimbing disciplines. In addition, there is a mountain bike challenge for off-roading excitement over the moors above Halifax.
Time Trialling - "The Race of Truth"
Pete Nelson Memorial 25
![]() |
Previously the club
has organised a race of truth, but due to marshalling limitations this event will
regretably not be on the 2007 CTT calendar. The event has been run on courses based on the old A1 and A168 in memory of our club member Peter Nelson, who previously organised the event. On reasonably fast, some might say sporting, courses, this event was one of the earliest 25 mile time trials in the Yorkshire district calendar, in late March. It has attracted a good field for an early season event.

Road Racing
Circuit Road Race - this event was a new introduction to the clubs calendar in 2002 and is run on a quieter circuit around the Rock and Heifer pub and the Walls of Jericoh near Denholme and Thornton on a Sunday morning.
The event affords lower category riders a good opportunity to race.
This will be the only road race event the club will organise for the 2007 season and more details will be posted here shortly.
Hill Climbing
| The club holds a
two stage hillclimb on the V9199/V9920 courses out of Luddenden
village, near Sowerby Bridge This event is has attracted the big names of hillclimbing in the past few years such as Jim Henderson, Mark Lovatt and the Blackburn CTC team. Both the climbs are approximately 1 mile in length but take in gradients of 1 in 5 to 1 in 12 with hairpin bends and changes in road surface. In 2003, Halifax Racing Club promoted on behalf of Cycling Time Trials the National Hill Climb Championship under their rules and regulations for the Yorkshire District Council. This event took place on the V9920 course and further details can be found on the special page on this site.

Mountain Bike Challenge
On an October Sunday morning the slosh of fat tyres on soft moorland terrain takes over as the autumn days take over and the club organises a mountain bike challenge.
The event has proved very popular since first run in 2004 attracting a broad spectrum of riding ability and proving a challenge for all.
This is not a racing event but some of the previous times for both the 21 and 14 mile routes have been impressive.
