Chesterfield 0
- 3 Don R Belles (Annette Bingham - 11 Sep) The girls were asked to go out and battle hard and fast from the
off, and they certainly did against a skilful Donny Belles side who arrived
at 9.15 obviously very keen to play us! We were certainly holding our own for
a good part of the first half and were unlucky to come in at half time 1-0
down. Tiredness causing a lack of concentration in the second half due to the
girls not being fully match fit ended in the result being 3-0 which was
unlucky I thought. The effort all the girls put in was brilliant for their
first match and if they can keep up that level of commitment they’ll
certainly get rewards. I wont single anyone out in this match as I thought it
was a great all round team effort. SHU Jun Blades 0 -
1 Chesterfield (Annette Bingham - 18 Sep) Well the reward came today. Kicking off slightly uphill the
girls battled well and after Ellen Lawton cleared to Kerrie Bingham who set
Leoni Everley up for a great finish, saw us go 1-0 into the lead. We thought
things may be a little easier in the second half kicking downhill but Sheff
Utd raised their game and seeming to be keener to get to that first ball put
us under a lot of pressure. Thea Chantelle Megan and Molly worked really hard
but on occasions the fast breaks from Sheff Utd caught us out, luckily Alice
was there to make some great saves. Injury and illness made it difficult
today but Kerrie and Ashleigh kept battling in midfield to the end. When we
did attack Leoni Beth and Christina looked dangerous but unfortunately the
Sheff Utd defence were up to the challenge. Player of the day went to
Chantelle Newsum for her usual great defensive play, but well done to all the
girls for battling to keep your lead. Also a mention to Ashleigh and
Christina, you’ve both fitted in really well and are making a great
contribution to the team. Steel City 3 -
2 Chesterfield (Mark Lawton - 3 Oct) The girls didn't get started in this
one and had to come back from 2-0 down at half time. A much better second
half performance saw Leoni Everley halve the deficit. The girls then put a
lot of pressure on the home defence and were the better and more composed
side. Unfortunately the girls were caught out when a low cross stuck under
Ellen Lawton's feet, a Steel City forward was first to the ball to restore
the lead to two goals. Immediately the gap was back to one goal after Leoni
got her second from close range. That's the way it stayed to an unnecessarily
tetchy end. Don R Belles 8 - 0 Chesterfield (Annette Bingham - 16 Oct) The score says it all really. A disappointing
performance after having a good game against them at the start of the season.
I’m sure all the girls will agree that we were second best today as regards
getting to that first ball, marking and tracking back and being 3 nil down
after 14 minutes wasn’t promising. The pace was picked up at times and Leoni found herself 1 on 1 with the keeper a couple of
times but it was to be one of those days. We were easily intimidated in this
match but one thing to come out of this is that as usual the girls played in
the right spirit of the game, despite ‘injuries’ of which the worse were
Ashleigh and Tina, hope you’re both ok. |
