This page shows how the Cistercian abbeys of Britain are related to each other
and to those in France. Traditionally, a new abbey would be founded by a small number of
monks moving away from an established one.
The diagram below shows the original French abbeys (in italics) and some of the many abbeys in Britain that
were created (dates in brackets). Hopefully in time all of these places can be clicked to get
