Gable Triangular end part of a ridged roof
Galilee Porch attached to the west end of the church
Gallery A Long narrow room, or a hallway
Garderobe Toilets that empty into a stream or simply outside the walls; toilets outside the building
Gargoyle Carved ornaments designed to carry rain water away from the side of buildings
Garth An enclosed garden. Usually in cloisters
Gatehouse A tower defending an entrance
Gauntlets Gloves made from pieces of metal allowing the hand to move
Gothic Period of architecture from the twelth to the fifteenth century. Early Engish and Decorated styles are included in this time period
Greaves Armour to protect the leg below the knees
Groin The edge of intesecting vaults
Guige A leather strap on a shield to allow it to be carried

Halberd A six foot long pole with battle axe head and a large spike on the end
Hall The main building used for domestic life
Haqueton Padded clothing wore underneath the armour for more comfort and added protection
Hauberk A leather and later chainmail full length garment from neck to knees
Haunch Part of an arch between it's pillar and highest point
Hayward Villager ensuring aminals did not stray.
Herringbone Affect of placing masonary inclined alternately to the left and right
Hide An area of land about 120 acres in size.
Hoarding Brattices or Breteche; Wooden boards fitted to top of wall used as extra protection for defenders

Impost The moulded high point of a pillar from which the arch springs
Infirmary A hospital for sick monks. The Infirmary usually had a cloister of its own
Intersecting tracery In windows where mullions split in Y shapes to form smaller arches
Intrados The underside of an arch
