1145  Jervaulx Abbey founded
  Initially a Savignic foundation, the abbey was taken over by the Cistercian order and responsibility for it was taken by Byland.  
1177  Byland Abbey founded
  After several years of moving the location of this abbey, the Cistercian monks finally settled at Byland in North Yorkshire.1
