Kilpeck  Leeds Castle
ancaster Castle was built on the remains of a Roman camp next to the River Lune by Roger de Poitou shortly after the Norman Conquest. William the Conqueror awarded Lancaster and the surrounding land to Roger in thanks for his assistance with the invasion. The award was known as the 'Honour of Lancaster'. Roger may have constructed the keep of the castle by 1090.
