Robert (III, King of Scotland 1390-1406)
Originally called John, he used the name Robert when he came to the throne when his father Robert II died in 1390. He had been injured by a horse's kick a few years earlier and suffered from a permanent injury.

Wykeham, William (of)
From an architect and surveyor for Edward III, to the Bishop of Winchester, and the founder of New College, Oxford, William of Wykeham had a varied and distinguished life. Arundel, Thomas
Thomas Arundel was the Chancellor of England and Archbishop of Canterbury. In Richard II's reign Arundel served twice as Chancellor and was also the Archbishop of Canterbury from 1396. John (of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster)
John of Gaunt was the son of Edward III, King of England and the father of Henry IV, king of England. He was born in Ghent, Flanders from which his name comes. HENRY (V, King of England 1413-1422)
Origins

Henry is believed to have been born sometime in 1387 in the gatehouse of Monmouth Castle. He was the eldest son of Bolingbroke (later to be Henry IV) and Mary Bohun. In October 1399 Bolingbroke claimed the English throne and had Richard II imprisoned and possibly ordered his murder (more...)

Building work undertaken in this time period
Old Wardour Castle 1393
The work on Wardour Castle (now Old Wardour Castle) was begun in this year. The architect in charge may have been William Wynford who was responsible for the changes made to Winchester Cathedral around about the same time. The castle is very unusual in that is is hexagonal and aligned to the north-east.

Winchester Cathedral 1394
Work began on converting the Norman front and nave of Winchester Cathedral to the Perpendicular style by the Bishop of Winchester, William of Wykeham.

Warwick Castle 1395
The construction of the huge circular tower called Guy's Tower at Warwick Castle was completed.
