Made a mistake on the last entry. the last vessel was not the Empress (some might have noticed the mistake) but it was the Anco Princess. you have a photo on the web sight of one of the masters I sailed with Mike ? Fairclough along with my senior cadet Andy Spooner - I was first officer 9acting as Chief officer for most of the voyage) andy was my senior cadet and right hand man.

I was a Deck Boy on the Athel King from November 1959 to November 1960, {long jag} trading from the continent to Black Sea ports in Russia and Rumania,
During this period the King was in collision with a spanish trawler off Gib, A lifeboat was launched and 12 men and a dog was picked up, the trawler which was on fire then sank,I have a small newspaper cutting reporting this incident if anyone is interested.By the way, Great site.

I wonder if anyone has any scurrilous anecdotes about Captain Dennis Churchill they'd like to share. He was my grandad, and recent excavation of our loft has unearthed reels of old camera footage of the Athel Line in the 50s and 60s.
If anyone has any remembrances of him, please get in touch.

Would be extremely interested to hear from anyone else who was on Anco Templar when we rescued the Korean fishermen in the Pacific - as I never got my film back from the U.S. Coastguard. Great site, lots of names I had long forgotten

Good Site,
stumbled on it purely by accident, I joined Athel Line as 2/E in Uddevala in 1971, stood by Sceptre and then sailed on the Sovereign. I recognise many of the reprobates in the photo gallery. I left to join Sanko Line in 1978. I am still at sea with Bergesen-Worldwide.
Best regards

Trying to find which ships my uncle served on, he was with Athel his entire career his name was John Rosine he retired as chief engineer in the late sixties, I am trying to find if he was on the Athelviking when it was sunk in January 1945 and on the Athelchief when it collided with the Chancellor of Halifax Nova Scotia 2.12.39.
Thanks John Cave

Just found this site and think it's great,Joined the Crstal Cube in Cammel Lairds, went straight from her to take the Athelviscount on her maiden voyage, later I sailed on the Athelduke and the Athelbeach. Sailed with some good men, and if John Eckersall who ask if Mervyn Williams ( chippy ) was remembered, he certainly was, I sailed with him on the Viscount and the Beach great bloke, hope he hasn't dropped the anchor yet. Good times had never to be forgotten.
