Cobnut & filbert

• Kentish Cob Seedlings from Kent were planted in about 1995. The first has yielded a couple of handfuls of nuts for the first time in Sept 2000. A mixed hedge of 12 of these and 12...
• 'Cosford Cob' were planted in Jan03
• Corylus 'Ennis' A few planted March 2000.
• Corylus 'Gunslebert' A few planted March 2000.
• Corylus 'Geant de Halle' 2 planted April 2001.
• Corylus 'Pearsons Prolific' One planted Jan 2003.
• Corylus avellana'Contorta' Planted March 2001 for its weird twisted branches, not its nuts.

Walnut

• Common walnut Juglans regia A few 1-yr seedlings were given to me by a friend & planted in tree shelters in about 1996. In autumn 2000, they were about 1m high, in 2005 still less than 2m high.
• Juglans regia 'Franquette'. Planted 1995?? at 2.5m high Badly shocked by the move, and did very little for 4 years. Much happier in 2000, and gave a couple of nuts in 2003.
• Juglans regia 'Broadview'. Planted in about 2002 as a pollinator for 'Franquette'.

Pine nuts

• Stone (parasol) pine Pinus pinea two planted about 1996 at 60cm high. Growing well. First attempt at a 'flower' was in 2000; the first cone happened in 2003; and the first nut was tasted in summer 2005. in 2004. The nuts are the pine nuts much used in Italian cooking.
• Lacebark pine Pinus bungeana Very slow. Hypothetically, the nuts are edible but whether the trees will ever grow big enough to yield I don't know.

Sweet chestnut

• Sweet chestnut Castanea sativa One-year seedling planted from a local source in winter 1999/2000. Growing well. There are some coppiced woods of sweet chestnut locally, so the tree itself should grow well, though I don't know about the quality of the nuts.
