Plum pruning

Prune the plum family in May, don't bother with painting the pruned cuts, and allow the tree to exude gum as it's own defence against fungal disease. Prune young trees to form a framework, and older trees only if crossing branches or centre-thinning is needed. Thin fruit if need be otherwise biennial bearing may happen.

Plum growing

I had a lovely day plum-tasting & visiting the plum collection at Brogdale on 13th August 2000. The plum family doesn't keep well, and the absolutely ripe plums & gages were a joy.
