Community groups receive funding

More than £13000 of funding was awarded to 15 community groups and projects when the St Oswald and Llanymynech Local Joint Committee met in Pant on Tuesday 13 October.
Groups could apply for up to £2000 under the current round of funding, and twenty one applications were received by the committee.
The successful applications included:
· Morda Youth Venture – awarded £1000 for equipment for a new youth centre. Llanyblodwel & Porthywaen Village Hall - £1474 for a security cage.
· Trefonen Playing Fields Association - £292 for a questionnaire survey of local people’s views about the development of the village hall and playing fields.
· Llanymynech village hall - £1000 for new chairs and tables.
· Maesbury Canal Festival - £1000 towards booking fees for local artists and craftspeople for the 2010 festival.
· Morda Golden Community Garden - £450 for a shed to keep tools in.
· Oswestry Hills Wildlife Watch Group - £879 for new equipment.
· Morton Church choir - £560 for music resources and chairs to encourage young people to join the choir.
· Kinnerley Parish Hall - £1000 for a water heater and hand basins for the ladies’ toilets.
· Knockin and Kinnerley Cricket Club - £2000 for new nets Councillor Arthur Walpole, Chairman of the St Oswald and Llanymynech LJC, said: “We had planned to award a maximum of £10000 at this meeting but such was the number and quality of funding applications received we decided to award £13460. I’m delighted that we have been able to award money to so many worthy local groups and projects. There is now a chance for people to apply for money from our next round of funding, which will be awarded at our January meeting.”
The deadline for the next round of Community fund applications is Monday 30 November.
A spokesperson for Morda Youth Venture said after receiving its funds, said: "This grant has been the catalyst needed to enable us to get our project off the ground".

These applications will be considered at the next meeting of the St Oswald and Llanymynech LJC, which takes place on 13 January at 7pm at Kinnerley Parish Hall. Topics to be discussed include low cost housing for local people.
St Oswald and Llanymynech Local Joint Committee covers the parishes of Kinnerley, Knockin, Llanyblodwel, Lllanymynech and Pant, Oswestry Rural, and Melverley. All people living in these areas are invited to attend the committee’s meetings.
