A long
time ago I had an idea to produce a painting.
A self
portrait that was different, something that couldn't be faked,
something that was not only a vision of myself but also contained
part of myself.
The
initial idea was pleasing but what should I use? after deliberation
the choice was between finger prints or using my signature, in the
end I chose to use my signature as it provided a convenient way of
creating cross hatching to use as shading.
To make
this portrait even more personal I have decided to use myself as the
medium, or to be more precise my own blood.
The use
of blood in painting is not new and has been used by many other
artists, probably the two most famous ones are: Hermann Nitsch who
uses bulls blood and
Marc Quinn who actually made a sculpture of his head using his own
frozen blood, this sculpture was bought by Charles Saatchi for
£13,000 and has since melted in an accident.
Currently
I am searching for anyone in the medical profession, be it either a
Doctor or a Nurse so I can safely obtain about a litre of my own
blood.
This
amount of blood from one person would have to be extracted in
several visits and over a safe amount of time hence I also need
advise on how to store the blood (although I'm guessing freezing it
would be fine as it is not needed for it cell structure).
If you
are in the medical profession think you may be of help, are
interested in this project or would just like to give me advice
