7/3/00: Ryman League Division Three

Tring Town 0 Great Wakering Rovers 1

Tring fell to the Division Three leaders for the third time this season, although this time there was only a single goal between the teams.

With regular keeper Keith McLoughlin injured, Tring drafted in the Gossoms End keeper Neil Spencer for his debut, and there was also a debut for striker Mark Burfoot, recently signed from Chalfont St Peter. Tring started the match brightly, forcing a couple of early corners, but the visitors soon began to take control of the game. However, neither keeper had a serious save to make during a first half that was short on goalmouth action.

The pattern continued during the second half, with Tring doing most of the defending and rarely being able to put together an attack. Tring looked capable of holding on for a draw until a defensive mistake on 64 minutes. Daniel Gordon's back pass to Spencer was too short, and Wakering's Tommy Dalgarno charged down Spencer's attempted clearance, and ran on to slot the loose ball into the empty net.

Tring had a rare glimmer of hope five minutes from time when Marcus Davis was through on goal but Wakering keeper Dave Hudson came out quickly to clear the danger on one of the few occasions he was brought into action.

Team: Spencer, Gordon, Simpson (Underwood), Bartlett, Beamish, Boad, Burfoot (Walters), Davis, McKane, Oliver, Nevin (Gerrard).
