1/4/00: Ryman League Division Three

Aveley 0 Tring Town 0

Tring extended their unbeaten away run to five games, but also extended their overall run of games without a win to five in an uneventful encounter at Aveley.

The match was scrappy from the opening exchanges, and seldom looked like improving. It was 26 minutes before either side produced a shot on target, when Aveley's Warren Drake hit a clean strike which provided Tring keeper Alistair Joslin with a comfortable save. Tring's best moment of the half came on 33 minutes when Fergus Nevin latched onto a poor clearance and sidestepped a defender on the edge of the area before shooting just wide.

The second half continued in the same unexciting vein, neither side showing the guile up front to unlock the other's solid defence. Tring had a presentable chance on 66 minutes when Tony Oliver's free kick was not claimed by the keeper and the loose ball fell to Liam Walsh, but Walsh shot over the bar with a crowd of players between him and the net. A similar chance fell to Eddie Gerrard on 75 minutes when the keeper dropped a corner, but Gerrard also put his shot over the bar. The clearest chance of the match was wasted by Aveley's Drake on 79 minutes, as he pulled the ball wide of the post with only Joslin to beat and ensured that this match would remain scoreless.

Team: Joslin, Underwood, Simpson, Bartlett, Beamish, Boad (Walsh), Gerrard, McKane, Walters, Oliver (Kinsley), Nevin.
