26/4/00: Ryman League Division Three

Tring Town 0 Epsom & Ewell 1

Tring's run of games without a win extended to nine after an early goal from visitors Epsom and Ewell was enough to earn them the three points.

Tring started well and should have gone in front after just three minutes. A misdirected defensive header gave James Armstrong a clear sight of goal, but his shot was saved by the keeper and Mark Burfoot put the rebound wide. Epsom's goal arrived on 13 minutes when Tring were caught a man short at the back. A cross found its way to the unmarked Steve Latuske, who had the simple task of sidefooting the ball past Alistair Joslin.

The second half was dominated by Tring, but as seen so many times this season, they could not translate their pressure into goals. The best chance came from a corner on 54 minutes. Steve Groves' shot was only parried by the keeper, but Antony Beamish put the rebound over the bar. Eight minutes from time Tring almost fashioned a classic 'route one' goal when Steve Harrhy's long clearance from the edge of his own area was brought under control by Marcus Davis, who then had only the keeper to beat, but his shot was saved. The effort and commitment of the Tring side could not be faulted, as they threw everything at Epsom during the second half, but they just could not put the ball in the back of the net.
