6/5/00: Ryman League Division Three

Tring Town 2 Flackwell Heath 2

Tring were once again left to rue their lack of a goalscorer as they enjoyed much the better of this match, despite again having to field a depleted side, but only came away with a point.

Tring started the match brightly, and should have gone in front in the 2nd minute when Steve Boad got on the end of Steve Groves' cross right in front of goal but headed wide. Instead, Tring went a goal down on 14 minutes when the former Blackburn Rovers star Simon Garner connected with a corner and drove home a first-time shot to put Flackwell ahead.

Tring had another golden opportunity on the half-hour when Groves crossed for James Armstrong, whose header went back across the face of goal where Mark Burfoot somehow put the ball wide from point-blank range. A minute later Burfoot had another great chance when a pass from Boad put him clean through, but he pulled his shot wide.

Tring picked up where they left off in the second half, and finally got their deserved equaliser on 48 minutes. Armstrong created some space for himself on the edge of the area with a bit of ball-juggling, and slipped a pass through for Sean Sangster, who slid the ball under the oncoming keeper to put Tring level.

Tring then went ahead on 66 minutes following more good work from Armstrong, who put the ball through for substitute Craig Hawley to slot past the keeper.

Tring were carrying much the greater threat, and looked to be going on to clinch the game, but they conceded an equaliser on 74 minutes. Flackwell's Jamie Charles received a long pass, and controlled it before beating the last defender and calmly shooting home.

That was just about the end of the action as the game petered out to a draw, which left Tring in a final position of 18th in Division Three.
