28/4/01: Ryman League Division Three

Hertford Town (0) 0 Tring Town (1) 1
  (Kinsley 24)

Tring completed a successful weekend with this narrow win over a struggling Hertford Town side. After the previous night's excitement this was a more mundane affair, but Tring achieved their objective by coming home with the three points.

Tring started well and missed a couple of early chances to take the lead. In the third minute a Tring corner was half-cleared to Steve Harrhy, who crossed for James Armstrong at the far post, but Armstrong volleyed wide. On 8 minutes another corner from Mark Underwood caused problems as Leon Hibbert just missed it at the near post and Antony Beamish got a faint touch at the far post but not enough to divert it into the net.

The goal that Tring were threatening eventually arrived on 24 minutes. Underwood's long throw was flicked on by Steve Boad and again by Hibbert for Alex Kinsley at the far post to sidefoot home his 15th goal of the season.

Tring keeper Simon Bartley had a quiet half, only being extended by a speculative shot from Danny Fitzpatrick on 27 minutes.

The second half began with Underwood attempting to score direct from the kick-off, but there were few other threats to the Hertford goal as Tring laboured under increasing tiredness. The battling Hertford side attempted to save the game, coming closest when Fitzpatrick shot just over the bar on 62 minutes, but although the Tring goal was under siege for the last ten minutes, the exhausted side held out to claim their 16th league win of the season.

Team: Bartley, J.Gibson, Harrhy, Bartlett, Underwood, Boad, Hibbert, Burfoot (Walters), Armstrong (C.Gibson), Kinsley, Beamish.
