14/8/01: Herts Charity Cup 2nd Round
Tring Town 1 Berkhamsted Town 4
The tie was a repeat of the season opener from a year ago, but the scoreline was reversed as Tring were brought down to earth after two big wins in their last two friendlies.
Tring gave themselves a mountain to climb after conceding two soft goals in the first half. On 20 minutes a short back pass was intercepted by Mark Dawber, who ran through to score comfortably, and another defensive slip allowed Ben Smith to go clean through on 36 minutes to score the second.
The tie was effectively killed off in the opening minute of the second half when Dawber added the third goal while most of the crowd were still in the clubhouse, and a fourth goal arrived midway through the half. Tring kept on battling though, and caused the Berko defence a lot more problems during the second half. They were rewarded five minutes from time when Scott Walters got on the end of Stuart Gallagher's deep cross to head a deserved consolation goal.
