21/8/01: Ryman League Division Three
Tring Town 0 Dorking 3
Tring are still looking for their first point of the season after failing to take their chances during a first half they dominated and going to pieces during the second half, although Tring can point to the fact that with Neal Bartlett and Antony Beamish suspended and Lee Johnson injured, they were without three experienced defenders.
It looked like it wasn't going to be Dorking's night when their keeper Julian Gray pulled up with a leg injury just six minutes into the game. Veteran striker Steve Lunn had to take over in goal, but certainly did not prove to be a weak link. On 16 minutes Alex Kinsley's cross found Scott Walters at the far post but Lunn pulled off an amazing save with his feet to deflect Walters' close-range effort over the bar. Two minutes later Tony Cook shot just wide from Mark Underwood's cross. Tring's best chances came in the last five minutes of the half. Ben Chesters went on a mazy run past several defenders but his eventual shot did not test Lunn too much. Walters headed over the bar at the far post from Underwood's free kick, and Lunn pulled off another heroic save when he tipped Kinsley's scorching first-time volley over the bar with one hand.
Tring squandered another good chance in the opening two minutes of the half when Dave Butler's cross found Chesters at the far post with the goal at his mercy, but he hoisted his shot way over the bar. Tring began to rue their missed chances as the visitors, attacking down the slope, began to come more into the game.
The turning point came on 58 minutes when Brian Johnson's challenge brought down a Dorking forward in the box, and Nick Torpey scored from the penalty spot to put Dorking ahead. Tring needed to get back in the game quickly, but instead they went two behind on 65 minutes when Ali Chaarban ran onto a through pass to shoot home a second goal.
Tring's defence looked in disarray as Chaarban scored a third from close range for the rampant visitors on 73 minutes, and things could have been even worse. In the dying minutes Steffan Ball somehow failed to score when clean through on Simon Bartley, and Bartley denied Chaarban his hat-trick by saving when Tring conceded a second penalty.
