28/9/01: Ryman League Division Three
Wokingham Town 0 Tring Town 0
League matches involving Tring or Wokingham have averaged around five goals per game so far this season, so it was probably inevitable that the meeting of the two sides would finish up without a goal. Tring will feel they should have won the match, but a draw was a fair result with both sides having a number of near misses.
Tring's first half display continued the improvement shown at Halstead, as they kept possession of the ball and had Wokingham encamped in their own half for long periods. On 9 minutes Dave Butler's cross was cleared away by defender Danny Fisher just before Scott Walters could get on the end of it. Alex Kinsley's first-time volley from the edge of the area went just wide on 12 minutes. At the other end Wokingham's Gary Blake missed a great chance on 31 minutes when he got on the end of a corner but headed over the bar from inside the six-yard box. Soon after Tring put together their best move of the match when Butler's pass set Walters clear down the right. Walters' cross found Kinsley beyond the far post but the keeper tipped Kinsley's header onto the bar. Tring hit the woodwork again on 38 minutes when Sean Sangster's shot hit the inside of the post and flew across goal, but nobody was on had to finish it off.
Another chance went begging early in the second half when Kinsley ran on to a great cross from Walters but couldn't keep his shot down and put the ball over the bar from six yards out. Generally, though, the home side had the better of the second half, and Simon Bartley pulled off the save of the match on 77 minutes when a neat flick put Jason Walkington in with a great shooting chance. But Tring could have won the game in the final minute when Antony Beamish got on the end of an excellent cross from Steve Groves, but Beamish didn't make proper contact with his header and it was cleared off the line.
Team: Bartley, Hibbert (Oliver), Sangster, Bartlett, L.Johnson, Boad, C.Gibson, Walters (Groves), Butler, Kinsley, Beamish.
