2/10/01: Ryman League Division Three

Witham Town 0 Tring Town 0

(abandoned after 49 minutes due to floodlight failure)

Tring's match at Witham Town last night came to a halt four minutes into the second half when most of the floodlights went out. For fifteen minutes the home club tried, but were unable, to rectify the problem, and the referee had no option but to abandon the match.

It was unfortunate for Tring, as their depleted side had put up an excellent display in the first half and were looking likely to take at least a point from the match. Tring only had one forward available, but Alex Kinsley's tireless running caused the Witham defence plenty of problems. Tring's best chances came on 30 minutes when Kinsley outpaced the last defender but hit his shot straight at the keeper, and on 40 minutes when Sean Sangster showed determination on the edge of the area before hitting a shot just over the bar. Just before half time Leon Hibbert headed just wide from Neal Bartlett's free kick. Tring's defence had frustrated the usually free-scoring Witham front line, and opened the second half in a similar fashion before proceedings came to a premature end.
