10/11/01: Ryman League Division Three

Tring Town (0) 3 Camberley Town (0) 0
(Kinsley 51,90, Sangster 59)

Tring's league revival continued on Saturday, with an impressive performance against a Camberley side who had won their last two games - and had been unbeaten at Pendley for 10 years!

It was Tring's sixth clean sheet in seven league games and goalkeeper Simon Bartley's fifth consecutive shut-out in league games. However, he was rarely troubled on an afternoon when Tring's defence was in control throughout.

Camberley offered little in the way of attack during a first half in which Tring powered down the Pendley slope and did everything but score. Two corners from Mark Underwood saw Steve Boad head straight at Camberley 'keeper Gray, and a fierce contact from Lee Johnson headed off the line by Nicholls. However, apart from set-pieces, Tring were unable to make their pressure count and only had long range efforts from Wayne Barber and Alex Kinsley to threaten the Camberley goal.

The deadlock appeared to be broken when Tring were awarded a penalty for handball on the stroke of half-time, but Kinsley's tame effort rolled wide of Gray's goal.

Goal-less at half-time, there was a danger that frustration could creep into Tring's game, but instead they produced 45 minutes of incisive and compelling football.

Butler released Underwood on the right and his low cross was smashed high into the net by Kinsley on 51 minutes. 8 minutes later Butler and Underwood combined again to create a goal of the highest quality for the outstanding Sean Sangster, taking a cross-field pass in his stride and sliding it past the on-rushing Gray from 12 yards.

Camberley never gave up, and briefly threatened through Shannon and McNamara, but Tring were in no mood to relinquish their hold on the game. In the final minute, Butler completed his hat-trick of 'assists' by releasing Kinsley, who rounded Gray before scoring from a narrow angle.

Manager Howard Cowley was pleased with his side's performance. "We are now beginning to produce the form of which we are capable. I was particularly pleased with our second-half performance; and with genuine competition for places and plenty of games to go, there is no reason why we cannot be successful this season"
