29/12/01: Ryman League Division Three

Dorking 3 Tring Town 0

A Tring side depleted by injuries and suspensions ended up well beaten by Dorking in a match where they simply never got going. Tring were missing five key players, but that does not excuse the lethargic nature of the performance.

Tring had one of their few chances on 7 minutes, when Dave Butler flicked on Mark Underwood's long throw, but Alex Kinsley's volley was easily saved by the keeper. Two minutes later, Tring found themselves behind. Steve Lunn was allowed too much space down the right to run and put over a cross, and the unmarked Ali Charbaan had a simple task of heading home from inside the six-yard box.

Neither side created much for the remainder of the half, although a poor defensive header saw another chance fall to Kinsley five minutes before the break, but his volley was deflected over the bar. On the stroke of half time Tring's task became even harder when Gani Ahmet again exploited space on the right to send over a cross which should have been cleared, but the loose ball fell to Charbaan who had another simple chance to tap home the second goal.

The game did not improve in the second half, as Tring continued to put very little pressure on the Dorking goal. Midway through the half Tring had everybody forward in an attack, which left them exposed when a simple through pass left Adrian Moses with the freedom of the Tring half. Moses ran on to finish with style past the helpless Simon Bartley, and that just about killed the game off.

Kinsley was the only Tring player to have any attempts on goal, and he was unlucky in the last minute when his long-range volley was tipped over the bar by the keeper, denying Tring even a consolation goal.
