16/2/02: Ryman League Division Three
| Tring Town (2) 2 | Wokingham Town (2) 2 |
| (Kinsley 23, Chesters 34) | (Walkington 13, Ward 41) |
Tring tried to get back to winning ways, but had to be content with a point from this game against fellow mid-table side Wokingham Town. Wokingham's erratic form has made them the most unpredictable side in the division, but both games against Tring have been drawn. Tring manager Howard Cowley was without his first-choice keeper Simon Bartley and the injured Mark Underwood.
Tring started the game strongly, and often had the suspect-looking Wokingham defence in trouble. In the third minute Alex Kinsley brought down Ben Chesters' cross and controlled it before hitting a shot, but the keeper Andy Beddow saved with his legs. On 10 minutes Scott Walters connected with Kinsley's corner but his header came back off the bar.
The visitors had hardly been in it up to that point, but they were gifted the lead on 13 minutes. Jason Walkington's corner looked a simple take for Tring's stand-in keeper Tony Perry, but the ball slipped out of his hands and over the line for the softest of soft goals.
Tring continued to have the better of the game, though, and got back on level terms on 23 minutes. A ball over the top allowed Kinsley to outpace Wokingham defender Jon Horsted, and Kinsley ran on to finish well, slotting the ball past the advancing Beddow. On 34 minutes Dave Butler laid on a chance for Chesters, and although Beddow got a hand to Chesters' well-struck shot, he could not keep it out and Tring were now 2-1 ahead.
However, Wokingham hit back, and when Tring failed to clear their lines Gavin Ward finished from close range to bring the scores back level on 41 minutes.
The second half saw both sides putting in plenty of effort but few chances created. Tring's best opening came on 62 minutes when Kinsley's pass gave Sean Sangster a clear run on goal, but Sangster ran the ball too far ahead of himself and allowed Beddow to close him down. In the final minutes Dave Butler's cross found Wayne Barber in front of goal, but Barber volleyed over the bar from six yards. At the other end Wokingham's pacy striker Jody Yee caused some headaches for the Tring defence, but again they created little in the way of clear-cut chances and the draw was the inevitable result.
