16/4/02: Ryman League Division Three
Corinthian Casuals 0 Tring Town 0
A hard-fought match, but a result that did nothing for either sides' slim hopes of promotion. Corinthian Casuals and Tring battled to a goalless draw, and it looks likely that the two sides will be meeting again next season in Ryman Division 2.
Tring had an early chance when Alex Kinsley's quickly-taken throw put Scott Walters in with a chance, but Walters' lob went just wide. In general, though, it was the home side who had the better of the first half, although Tring's stand-in keeper Billy Davies was rarely troubled, only being stretched on 38 minutes by Simon Sobihy's long-range effort.
The second half largely belonged to Tring, and although Casuals defended strongly, Tring had a number of presentable chances. On 54 minutes Walters' had his shot saved after a neat turn and run, and on 76 minutes Walters headed wide from Ben Chesters' cross. Four minutes later Tring had their nearest miss when Lee Johnson headed against the bar from Mark Underwood's corner, and Chesters chipped a free kick just over the bar. However, the home side almost snatched victory in injury time when Stuart Vaughan got on the end of a free kick with a powerful header, but Davies produced an acrobatic tip-over to keep Tring in the game.
Team: Davies, Underwood, Barber, Bartlett, L.Johnson, C.Gibson, Chesters, Walters, Butler, Kinsley, Beamish.
