Tring continued their unbeaten
start to the season with a goalless draw against
Wokingham at Flackwell Heath's ground. The game was
somewhat scrappy, with both sides putting in a lot of
effort without creating many clear-cut chances. The game almost started perfectly for Tring, as Kevin Chakaodza had the ball in the net in the first minute, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Tring soaked up some pressure from the home side before going close again on 12 minutes, with Wokingham keeper Andy Beddow having to parry away a free kick from Alex Kinsley. Six minutes later Mike Hemmingway made a strong run down the right before crossing, but Jamie Hall's effort was blocked at the near post. Wokingham's first chance fell to Steve Osborne on 34 minutes when the ball dropped for him at a free kick, but he lifted the ball over the bar. There was another dangerous moment for Tring a minute before the break when Foday Touray went around Leon Hibbert and shot from a narrow angle, but David Clark parried the shot and the rebound was headed clear by Tring sub Ricky Levenston. Tring had already lost Wayne Barber to injury, and Mike Hemmingway also had to leave the game at half time. The second half continued in much the same way as the first, with Wokingham having another good chance on 50 minutes. Stuart Marks took advantage of a defensive slip to go clean through, but Clark got a hand on his shot to take the sting out of it, and Joe Gibson hacked the loose ball clear. Two minutes later Tring had a half chance when Beddow allowed a high ball to drop over his head, but Jamie Hall couldn't quite force the ball in from a narrow angle. On 56 minutes Hall's near-post header from a corner was parried away, and Mike Courtney's effort from the rebound was also blocked. Both sides made substitutions in an attempt to break the deadlock, but apart from a good chance for Marks which he put over the bar eight minutes from time, there were no more near misses, and the game ended in a result which neither side could argue with. |
