| Tring's FA Cup dreams were dashed
at the first hurdle as they went down to a strong
Buckingham Town side at Ford Meadow. Tring were
without the injured Rob Woolfrey and Jamie Hall,
but defender Sean McCarthy made an impressive
debut. Buckingham
are currently top of the United Counties League
with 16 goals from 3 games, and their confidence
was evident from the outset as they put Tring
under heavy pressure. Giant defender Ian Trott
headed just wide from a corner on 6 minutes, and
Tring keeper David Clark pulled off the first of
a series of outstanding saves on 12 minutes when
Meshach Cole got in behind the Tring defence from
a throw-in.

| Tring's first threatening moment
came on 15 minutes when Mike Hemmingway's pass
put Sean Sangster in, but Sangster's dangerous
ball across the face of goal was cleared. Clark
was called into action again on 36 minutes when
Abdul Abdi ran onto a crossfield pass and struck
a fierce shot, and five minutes later Abdi struck
a volley from the edge of the area, but Clark
pulled off another full-length dive to turn the
ball round the post. Having soaked up so much
pressure, Tring almost sneaked a goal just before
the break when Hemmingway got on the end of Mike
Courtney's cross with a diving header that went
just wide. Buckingham
continued to threaten from the start of the
second half, and finally broke down Tring's
resistance in the 48th minute. A defensive slip
allowed Lewis Julius to go clear down the right,
and he crossed to the far post where Cole
finished with a close-range effort that gave
Clark no chance.
Tring were still
unable to put any serious threat on the
Buckingham goal, as too many of their attacks
consisted of high balls which were easy pickings
for the giant defensive partnership of Trott and
former Tring player Stuart Blaik. Tring's task
became even harder when they conceded a second
goal on 73 minutes. A cross from Matthew Primus
found Abdi unmarked at the far post, and he made
no mistake from a simple chance.
For the last
fifteen minutes Tring played with four strikers,
and although Kevin Chakaodza and Jay Marshall
caused the Buckingham defence more problems than
they had previously encountered, the game was now
beyond them, and their fate was sealed three
minutes from time when Leon Hibbert stuck out a
boot to clear a cross, but only succeded in
diverting the ball into his own net.
