| Tring were left to
reflect on a series of first half near-misses as
they eventually fell to a disappointing home
defeat to Flackwell Heath in Saturday's league
match. The
contest was evenly-matched throughout most of the
game, but Tring certainly had the better chances
in the early part of the match. In the 4th minute
a fine Tring move culminated in a through pass to
Kevin Chakaodza, who stabbed a shot from six
yards that came back off the post. On 14 minutes
Wayne Barber's corner was met at the near post by
Ceri Marshman with a glancing header that went
inches over the angle of crossbar and far post. A
minute later Alex Kinsley's corner from the other
side was misjudged by Flackwell keeper Stewart
Poole and hit the crossbar.
There was
another promising moment on 30 minutes when
Kinsley broke from defence and exchanged passes
with Chakaodza before hitting a shot from an
angle that was well saved by Poole. Four minutes
later Jamie Hall made a surging run into the box
before squaring the ball, but Poole was on the
spot again as he grabbed the ball from
Chakaodza's feet before he could shoot. On 39
minutes another chance went begging when Marshman
headed wide from Hall's cross.
Tring keeper
David Clark hadn't been forced into a serious
save up to this point, but it was he who was
picking the ball out of the net on 41 minutes.
Paul Catlin crossed from near the touchline, and
Kevin Franklin got ahead of the Tring defenders
to stab the ball home at the near post and send
Flackwell into the break ahead.
After showing
lots of attacking ideas in the first half,
Tring's display in the second half was a
disappointment. Too often the final ball was
found wanting, and Tring did not put in a telling
cross throughout the half. A long-range shot from
Paul Turner brought a save out of Poole on 57
minutes, and Kinsley's snap shot from the edge of
the area on 73 minutes went just wide.
However,
Flackwell always looked threatening on the break,
and Clark had to produce a couple of good saves
from Franklin on 58 minutes and Jason Bowler on
77 minutes to keep Tring in the game. The second
goal did not arrive until three minutes from
time. Leon Hibbert's tackle just inside the area
sent Catlin to the ground, and Bowler netted the
resulting penalty to secure the points for
Flackwell.
