Tring are back in with a
chance of qualifying for the next stage of the
Associate Members Trophy after an impressive win
at Edgware in last night's group game. Tring
turned in their best ninety minutes of the season
so far with a bright attacking display and
created enough chances to have won the game more
comfortably.
The two best chances in the early stages of the
game both fell to the home side's Jamie Gallaher,
but on 7 minutes Tring keeper David Clark got a
hand to Gallaher's shot to turn it round the
post, and on 13 minutes Gallaher shot wide when
clean through on Clark. However, Tring were
passing the ball well, with Gary Clark in
particular finding the right balls to set up
chances for Kevin Chakaodza and Alex Kinsley, and
attempting an audacious chip from inside his own
half when Edgware keeper Alex Di Rubbo was
stranded out of his goal, which was only just
wide.
Tring's good play was rewarded with a goal on 21
minutes. Kinsley was 30 yards out when he struck
a fine shot which beat Di Rubbo but came back off
the bar, however the rebound fell nicely for Rob
Woolfrey to sidefoot the ball home and put Tring
into the lead.
Tring had a chance to go further in front on 29
minutes when Chakaodza's pass set up Kinsley to
fire across the face of goal. Dean Hutchinson
slid in to make contact but put the ball straight
into Di Rubbo's hands. Within a minute of that
chance Edgware had equalised. Denis Maharjan
managed to shrug off the attentions of two Tring
defenders to square the ball from the bye-line,
and Gallaher was unmarked in front of goal for an
easy finish from point-blank range to level the
scores.
However, Tring continued to create chances. On 38
minutes Clark hit the post with a first-time shot
from the edge of the area, and on 42 minutes
Wayne Barber made a driving run from inside his
own half, exchanging passes with Kinsley before
putting another dangerous ball across the face of
goal. Just before the break a pass from
Hutchinson put Kinsley in the clear, but he ran
the ball too far in front of him, allowing Di
Rubbo to claim the ball at his feet.
Tring might have felt themselves unfortunate to
not be leading at the break, but they wasted no
time in re-establishing their lead in the second
half. Within ninety seconds of the restart,
Kinsley swung over a free kick from near the
touchline, and Chakaodza darted in at the near
post to head home his first goal for the club.
The Tring threat did not subside, and on 66
minutes they went further in front. Kinsley broke
through the centre of the Edgware defence before
hitting a shot that Di Rubbo parried, but the
rebound went straight to Chakaodza, who calmly
side-footed home his second, and Tring's third
goal of the night.
Chakaodza had a chance to round off an
outstanding display with a hat-trick three
minutes from time when Steve Groves' pass put him
through, but his lob over Di Rubbo landed just
wide of the goal. In what was a thoroughly
entertaining match, Edgware continued to battle
to the end, and deep into injury time Clark did
well to tip over a rasping shot from Ryan Hillary
and maintain the two-goal advantage that takes
Tring to second place in the group. |
