Tring are now officially
out of the Associate Members Trophy, as this
result ensures that they cannot finish in the top
two of their group. This performance was an
improvement on last week's display at Cheshunt,
but despite a lot of promising build-up play
Tring could not find any end product.
The visitors made the more confident start to the
game, although the Tring goal was not seriously
threatened until 19 minutes when Kingsbury took
the lead. Dave Norton's cross to the far post was
met with a header by Green that was saved, but
not held by Tring's debutant keeper Leigh Dale,
and Kevin Jones followed up to net the rebound.
Tring almost hit back two minutes later when
Steve Groves' pass played in Kevin Chakaodza, who
knocked the ball past keeper Lee Clarke but
a defender got back to clear the ball off the
line. On 29 minutes Chakaodza went on an
impressive solo run and finished it with a shot
that brought a good save out of Clarke, and four
minutes later Chakaodza went close again when he
ran onto Adam Dale's pass but shot into the side
netting.
Tring should have levelled on 51 minutes when
Wayne Barber managed to force his way to the
bye-line to deliver an inviting cross, but
neither Dean Hutchinson or Dennis Fennemore could
force the ball home as it went across the face of
goal. Clarke came off his line well to deny both
Fememore and Chakaodza when they were clean
through, while at the other end Dale produced a
good save with his legs to deny Jones when he was
through on 71 minutes.
Ten minutes from time, though, Kingsbury landed
the killer blow when a missed defensive header
left Jones with only Dale to beat, and he slipped
the ball past the Tring keeper to ensure the win
that gives Kingsbury a good chance of qualifying,
but leaves Tring with only a dead rubber against
Cheshunt to look forward to. |
