Tring extended their run
of form to one defeat in the last six games, but
this was another game they should have won, as
they squandered a series of chances in a second
half they dominated.
The first half was evenly-contested throughout,
with the first chance falling to Wokingham on 7
minutes. A long goal kick was flicked on by Ryan
Adger to Peter Mulvaney, who raced clear and
lifted the ball over Tring keeper Lee Turney, but
Brian Johnson got back to clear off the line.
Tring's first opening came on 22 minutes when
Adam Dale hit the ball across the face of goal.
Kevin Chakaodza slid in but didn't make enough
contact to divert the ball into the net.
Chakaodza had another good chance on 36 minutes
when Alex Kinsley's flick put him through, but he
lobbed the ball way over the bar.
A defensive mistake gave Tring the chance which
put them in front on 43 minutes. The keeper tried
to claim the ball, but it was kicked out of his
hand by a defender. The loose ball found Dennis
Fenemore on the edge of the penalty area and his
first-time shot found the back of the net.
However, the lead lasted little more than a
minute. Tring were lacking cover at the back when
a through ball was played to Mulvaney, and he
outpaced the last defender Johnson, running on to
slot past Turney for the equaliser.
The second half was frustrating for Tring as they
enjoyed the bulk of the possession but could not
finish off the chances they created, even more
disappointing was the fact that they did not
force the Wokingham keeper to make one serious
save. On 61 minutes Tring had a promising
counter-attack. Fenemore's pass put Kinsley clean
through, but Kinsley stumbled in the penalty area
as he prepared to shoot. On 74 minutes Fenemore
raced in on the overlap and beat the last
defender, only to shoot across the face of goal.
Five minutes later Fenemore was in a similar
position but shot straight at the keeper when a
pull-back to the unmarked Jay Marshall would have
been the better option.
Two minutes from time Tring's best move of the
match brought what they thought was the winning
goal. Marshall's ball from deep was headed on by
Chakaodza to Kinsley, who got to the bye-line and
crossed to the far post for Fenemore to head
home. However, the referee adjudged that Fenemore
had fouled a defender as he jumped, so Fenemore
had a goal disallowed for the third time in four
games. In stoppage time Kinsley struck a free
kick just over the bar and Wayne Barber put
another good chance over as Tring were forced to
settle for the point. |
