Tring's unbeaten run came
to an end as two late goals condemned them to
defeat in Saturday's game at Ware. However, Tring
scarcely deserved to take anything away from a
lethargic performance that did not compare to
those in recent games.
There were few chances in a scrappy opening to
the game, although Ware went close to taking the
lead on 17 minutes. Lewis Field's shot from a
narrow angle came back off the bar, and the
rebound hit Nicky Burt, although he was unable to
control it as it flew over the top.
In fact it was Tring who went in front with a
bizarre goal on 25 minutes. Alex Kinsley's corner
barely reached the near post, but Dave Butler got
a glancing flick on it, and as a defender and the
keeper left it to each other to clear, the ball
trickled over the line. However, a corner at the
other end saw Ware draw level four minutes later.
The ball was headed back across goal from the far
post, and as Tring keeper Lee Turney went to
collect, Shayne Mangodza got there first to force
the ball into the net.
Tring's only other chance of the half came on 33
minutes when Kinsley shot just over the bar from
20 yards after a neat passing move, but half time
arrived with the scores still level.
Tring's performance in the second half was no
better, and it was the home side who created all
the chances, although for a long time it looked
as though they were going to regret missing so
many. On 50 minutes Ware moved the ball from end
to end in three passes with no Tring player
getting anywhere near the ball until Turney saved
David Hunt's shot from close range.Turney saved
with his legs on 62 minutes when Matt Keogh broke
clear, and all of the Ware strikers were guilty
of shooting wide when in good positions.
It looked as though Tring were going to hang on
for a point until four minutes from time. A long
pass along the ground was allowed to go much
further than it should, and Field got on the end
of it to shoot home from an angle. From the
restart Ware broke away again, and Kevin Cooper
slotted the ball under Turney for a second goal
within 40 seconds.
By then the game was lost, and despite a triple
substitution Tring were unable to turn it around
and were forced to accept their first defeat in
six games. |
