31/10/98:Ryman League Division Three

Tring Town 0 Tilbury 4

Tring failed to follow up their good form of the last two games as they crashed to a heavy defeat on another rain-soaked afternoon.

Tilbury started the brighter of the two sides and had already gone close twice before Tring created their first chance on 23 minutes. Paul Turner crossed from the bye-line for Roger Jashek, whose towering header came back off the crossbar.

However, two goals in three minutes from the visitors knocked back the Tring challenge. On 35 minutes Tring failed to clear a corner and Jay Izzet pounced to shoot home from close range. Then on 37 minutes a deep cross from the right was headed in at the far post by Del Francois. It could have been worse as Francois struck the bar with another header on 42 minutes.

Tring made two changes at half-time, but their hopes were killed off on 52 minutes when Tilbury broke quickly and Mat Aseh headed home another deep cross that Keith McLoughlin should really have reached first.

Tring had a good period towards the middle of the half; on 65 minutes sub Wayne Gladdy showed great skill to beat two defenders and get in a shot which the keeper could only parry, but inexcusably nobody was following up to net the rebound. A minute later Peter Owen rattled the bar with a shot from the edge of the area.

However, more poor defending saw Tilbury shoot home a fourth on 70 minutes. Tring had a chance for a consolation goal five minutes from time when Turner was upended in the box by Shaun Rees, but Phil Greenwood's spot kick was saved by the keeper.

Team: McLoughlin, Lay (Kinsley), Evans (Dale), Turner, Jashek, Greenwood, McKane, Jones, Owen, Siddons, Scott (Gladdy).
