5/12/98: Ryman League Division Three
Tring Town 1 Dorking 3
If matches were played over 45 minutes then Tring would probably be top of the league by now, but once again they surrendered a lead and handed Dorking their first points of the season.
The visitors created the first scare in the 3rd minute when a shooting chance opened up for Adrian Moses, but his shot struck the bar. Tring made the most of their good fortune and went ahead two minutes later with a nicely-worked goal. Peter Owen played the ball across the box to Ben Williams, who found space to cross for Wayne Gladdy to finish from close range.
Tring almost increased their lead three minutes later when Andy Wells got his head to a fierce cross-cum-shot from Adam Dale, but couldn't keep it on target.
Tring created little else until 41 minutes, when Tristan Heywood chased a long pass, and with nobody else coming up in support had to go it alone, and did extremely well to beat two defenders and get in a shot that cleared the crossbar by inches.
Dorking opened the second half as they did the first, with Moses striking a good shot that Keith McLoughlin did well to save. Tring also started brightly, with Ben Williams going on a great solo run on 52 minutes before pulling the ball back for Heywood, whose shot was deflected wide.
On 56 minutes Peter Owen struck the bar with a shot, but four minutes later Owen made a more damaging contribution to Tring's chances. Having already been booked and warned again, Owen foolishly got involved with a Dorking defender over a free-kick incident, and got his second yellow card and a red one for not retreating.
Tring's ten men held on grimly to their lead for another 20 minutes, but it all started to fall apart over the last 12 minutes.
Firstly Dorking equalised on 78 minutes when Stephen Gillett got on the end of a good cross with a powerful header. Four minutes later Jonathan Tyler went on a strong run into the box and shot home their second. Tring could not turn the tide, and in injury time Dorking made sure of the points as Niall Harris shot home a third.
