31/3/99: Ryman League Division Three

Tring Town 4 East Thurrock United 0

It all came right for Tring Town as they registered their biggest win for four years in last night's game against East Thurrock United at Pendley.

Tring got off to the perfect start when they took the lead after just three minutes. Darnell St John's pass put Ricky Fletcher through, and the big striker playing his first game for weeks lifted the ball over the keeper to start the scoring.

It was 2-0 after 13 minutes when Wesley Morrey was put clean through, and his finish was no less impressive as he blasted the ball home.

Tring had the chances to take an even bigger lead into the break, but they had to wait until the second half to add to their score. On 52 minutes Dave Kearney passed to Gavin Hart, who turned the last defender before shooting home the third goal. Hart should have added another on 62 minutes when the ball dropped for him all alone on the edge of the six yard box, but he took too long to get the ball under control and allowed the keeper to make a save. On 70 minutes Tring went close again when Fletcher's clever backheel put Morrey in with a great chance but the keeper got down to save his low shot.

The fourth goal finally arrived ten minutes from time when a long goal kick from Lee Brown, who didn't have a shot to save all night, was flicked on to Darnell St John, who showed good control on the bumpy pitch to run on and fire home. It completed a comfortable and convincing victory which leaves Tring bottom only on goal difference.

Team: Brown, Lewis (Bray), Turner, Campbell, Condon, Kearney, Hart, McKane, Fletcher, Morrey (McGuire), St John (Crofts)
