28/8/99: Ryman League Division Three
Tring Town 0 Egham Town 4
Four games down and Tring are still looking for their first point of the season. Once again it was poor defending that contributed to their downfall, although their cause was not helped by the absence of the two main central defenders Paul Aldridge and Jason Asquith.
Egham took the lead after just six minutes from the first serious attack of the game. Tring failed to deal with a long throw in from James Sheffield, and Wesley Harrison crossed to give Desmond Boateng a simple tap-in from close range.
Tring settled down after that, and came close with a header from Matt Rawdon on 15 minutes, and a volley from Eddie Gerrard just wide on 27 minutes. However, their task was made even harder on 30 minutes when Egham doubled their lead with an almost identical goal. Again it was a long throw by Sheffield that caused a problem, and this time Harrison was in front of goal to finish off.
Paul Turner produced Tring's best effort of the match when he headed just over the angle from a corner on 40 minutes, but Egham struck the killer blow deep into stoppage time. A quick break from a throw-in near the halfway line, culminated in Boateng shooting home from the edge of the area for his second and Egham's third.
Egham capitalised on more poor marking when Danny Smart headed home the fourth goal on 57 minutes, but there was little other action of note during the second half. Tring's lack of threat up front was all too apparent, and while they hardly seemed four goals worse than Egham, they can have no complaints about the result.
