9/10/99: Ryman League Division Three
Tring Town 1 Hertford Town 0
Tring's upward surge continued as another late, late show brought them a well-deserved win over Hertford Town. It was Tring's fifth win in the last six games in all competitions.
The first half of this match belonged to Tring, as they dominated possession, but created few clear-cut chances. They came close in the opening minutes when Steve Bateman headed onto the roof of the net from a corner, and on 21 minutes when a long shot from Eddie Gerrard dipped just over the bar. Keith McLoughlin produced an outstanding save on 24 minutes to match his save from last week's game, as he dived to turn round a driven free kick from just outside the box.
In the second half, however, it was Hertford that had the bulk of the possession, although they created no more danger than Tring had done in the first half. The match looked to drifting towards a goalless draw until Tring struck against the run of play seven minutes from time. A free kick to the far post was headed back across goal by Paul Aldridge, and Steve Groves nipped in to nod the ball home. It was the former Amersham Town player's first goal for the Tring first team.
Team: McLoughlin, Underwood, Turner, Bateman, Aldridge, Dale, Gerrard, McKane, Rawdon, Godbold (Gladdy), Groves.
