27/11/99: Ryman League Division Three
Tring Town 0 Kingsbury Town 2
Just when it seemed that Tring had turned the corner, it looks like their season is in danger of going off the rails again. This was their fifth successive defeat, and their third game without a goal, and they are now only being kept off the bottom of the table by goal difference.
Tring's major problem at the moment is putting the ball in the net, as again they dominated long periods of the match whilst creating few moments of danger for the Kingsbury keeper. The visitors, however, scored on their first attack of the match. On 10 minutes, a long throw-in was helpfully flicked on by a Tring defender, and Ryan Fitzsimon came in at the near post to head home.
Tring were denied what looked like a clear penalty on 25 minutes when Rob McKane was sent sprawling on the edge of the area, and weren't even awarded the free kick. However, on the stroke of half time they did get a penalty. Scott Walters was tripped as he attempted to turn, and the referee awarded Tring's first penalty of the season. McKane's spot kick was saved, however, to leave Tring still behind at the break.
Tring kept up the pressure in the second half. On 49 minutes Steve Boad headed just wide from a corner, and on 61 minutes Steve Bateman floated a free kick just over the bar. However, from one of their rare forays into the Tring half, Kingsbury added a second on 64 minutes. A clever pass put Terry Harrison in behind Neal Bartlett, and his cross was finished off at the near post by Tyrone Jones.
Tring got a glimmer of hope 12 minutes from time when Kingsbury's Simon Huggett was sent off for his second bookable offence, however the ten men proved no easier to break down than the eleven. Paul Aldridge hit the bar with a header, and Adam Dale shot over a gaping net from six yards as Tring pressed on to the end, but could not break their duck.
