19/8/00: Suburban League North Division
Tring Town 1 Marlow 0
With the sun shining at 3 o'clock, Tring reserves kicked off
the new season fielding a changed team from previous fixtures.
Marlow dominated the game for the first half hour before Tring
began to get it together in the last 15 minutes, creating their
own opportunities to score, but half time arrived with the
scoreline at 0-0.
Tring restarted in a much improved way and dictated the second
half. New goalkeeper Graham Milner had an excellent game on his
debut, making some very firm saves to keep his team on level
terms. With chamces going begging the game looked to be heading
for a goalless draw, but in the 80th minute a good move from
Tring led to Liam Walsh hitting an angled lob over the Marlow
keeper into the far side of the net.
Tring held onto the lead until the final whistle and an excellent
start was recorded., which meant that both the first and second
teams had recorded opening day wins.
28/8/00: Suburban League North Division
Ruislip Manor 0 Tring Town 1
Tring Reserves had their first away League game of the season travelling to Ruislip Manor. With a few changes in the line up, Tring settled early on and were on top for most of the first half. With this pressure, Tring broke the deadlock with a well taken goal. A quick free kick released Nathan Butt down the right flank and crossed for Liam Walsh to score on the volley.
The second half was in general, a repeat of the first. But Tring made some poor passes, allowing Ruislip to mount some good attacks on goal, only to be denied by some excellent saves by David Clark in the Tring goal.Tring have found two very good goalkeepers in David and Graham. The score remained at 1 - 0 and the reserves recorded their second victory of the campaign
9/12/00: Herts Intermediate Cup Third Round
Tring Town 5 Potters Bar Town 0
Following the example of the first team last week, Tring Town's reserves turned in a five-star show to progress to the quarter-finals of the Herts Intermediate Cup where a home tie against Berkhamsted Town or Evergreen awaits.
Tring squandered a number of good chances before finally taking the lead a minute before the break. Nathan Butt's cross was flicked on by Andy Sissons to Mark Burfoot, who shot home from close range.
Tring doubled their lead on 52 minutes. Butt's cross was fumbled by the keeper, and Steve Groves' effort on the rebound was blocked, but Rob Farrell netted the loose ball. Butt also started the move which led to Tring's third goal on 78 minutes, as he broke forward and passed to Groves, who laid the ball off for Mike Courtney to strike home a fine first-time shot.
Tring really turned on the style over the closing minutes, and added a fourth on 86 minutes when Courtney broke clear and unselfishly squared for Micky Dyer to tap home the fourth, and Courtney himself had a simple tap-in in the last minute to complete the rout.
Team: Clark, C.Gibson, Read, Deans, B.Johnson, Butt, Hibbert, Farrell, Burfoot, Sissons, Groves. Subs used: Courtney, Hall, Dyer.
10/3/01: Suburban League North
Division
Tring Town 4 Hillingdon Borough 1
Tring's reserves pulled off a superb win against the leaders of the North Division in last Saturday's game. Despite the first team match being off, the only players from that squad to switch across were Lee Kelly, who had made his debut for the first team the week before, and Brian Johnson.
Tring came under early pressure, as Hillingdon hit the post in the opening minutes, but went in front against the run of play on 12 minutes. The referee spotted a handball, and Nathan Butt netted the penalty. Micky Dyer missed the first of two good chances on 20 minutes to put Tring further ahead, and Hillingdon equalised on 24 minutes when Hennessey shot across the face of goal and Japp backheeled the ball in. Micky Dyer's second chance came on 43 minutes when he shot over after being set up by Steve Groves, but Dyer was struggling with an injury and was replaced at half time by James Green.
Tring were much the better side in the second half, and had several chances to score before going to town in the last ten minutes of the game. On 81 minutes Green latched onto a long ball, controlled it with one touch and slotted home with his second for his first ever goal for the club. He only had to wait two more minutes for his second, when Groves set him up for a shot that went in off a defender. Groves rounded off the win in stoppage time with a superb strike from the edge of the box which gave the keeper no chance. An excellent performance by a mostly very young side.
Team: Clark, B.Dyer, Young, Read, Johnson, Butt, M.Dyer (Green), Myatt, Burfoot, Kelly, Groves.
