Pendley Sports Centre

Tring Town's ground at the Pendley Sports Centre is part of a complex that also includes a rugby club, squash club, bowls club plus training pitches. Tring moved to the ground in 1951 having previously shared with Tring Park Cricket Club.

The present grandstand dates back to the early 1950's, although a refurbishment in 1995 saw it refiitted with 150 plastic tip-up seats to replace the wooden bench seating. The present clubhouse was opened in the mid 1970's, the building was previously used as a mobile classroom. Floodlights were switched on in 1976. Two areas of terracing were built in 1989, one opposite the stand and the other behind the clubhouse end goal. The latter area was covered in 1995, and the former area was covered, albeit briefly, in 2002. In 1999 the brick-built dugouts on the far side of the pitch were removed and replaced by glazed dugouts on the stand side.

This view shows the stand and clubhouse viewed from the rugby end. The pitch has a pronounced slope from this end down to the clubhouse end. The brick building visible behind the stand is the Squash club.

Two more views of the main stand showing the turnstile entrance to the right of the stand and the dugouts.

This view shows the covered clubhouse end terrace.

Side views of the covered end terrace.

Two views of the hastily-constructed cover over the side terrace. The roof panels came down in strong winds within days of them being put up. A better cover will have to be erected if the club is to obtain a Ryman League 'B' grade.

The 'top' end of the ground. There is only a concrete pathway at this end. The brick building is the rugby clubhouse, and the rugby pitch is just the other side of the fence. It is not uncommon for the wrong-shaped ball to end up on either pitch! The tree next to the goal is barely a yard beyond the goal-line.
