UK Practical Pistol

Links & further info

This section details a variety of sources from which you can obtain more information about the sport, equipment and competitions. I’ve tried to make it as comprehensive as possible but if you know of any good sites or sources not mentioned please let me know.

“Official bodies”

IPAS (Iron plate action shooting). Don’t be put off by the title - it’s a different form of “speed shooting”. Perfect for clubs wanting to shoot rapid fire pistol within limited space and with range equipment that’s easy to construct, set up and clear away/store. Loads of info on their site, find it by clicking HERE.

UKPSA (United Kingdom Practical Shooting Association). Our “ruling body”. Their site (click HERE for a link) cover all forms of practical shooting, not just pistol. You can download a full copy of the UKPSA PP rules from there. It’s a long download (about 45 pages) but well worth it. Full specifications for the various classes of pistol, target details and dimensions, scoring systems, safety rules, stage design - the lot.

Clubs

This is not an exhaustive listing, but shows those I could find on the web where air (or CO2) pistol shooting at least gets a mention on their site. If you know of any others (and there must be more), let me know and I’ll add the details. If they’re not on the web a contact address/’phone number is fine.

Glevum. (Nr Gloucester). Arguably the “home” of UK PP. A visit to their web site is worthwhile - some good “how to do it” info on PP along with “action” pics. Web link HERE STOP PRESS - site down

Magazines

Unfortunately there are no magazines that cater purely for pistol shooters. The two popular monthly titles - Airgun World and Airgunner have virtually no coverage of PP but they’re chock full of ads, with plenty of CO2 pistols on offer.

There is one on line magazine and this seems to be going from strength to strength. There’s an interesting article (illustrated) on pistol holds that has recently been added - find it in the help section. http://www.airguns.f9.co.uk/
