Motorcycle Tour Photograph Gallery

Gallery Guide

The photograph gallery section of this tour guide presents a variety of photographs taken during motorcycle trips from the UK to the Spanish Costa Blanca on the Mediterranean coast.

Photograph quality The displayed photos are compressed (3k to 8k bytes) so as to download as quickly as possible, but are just sufficiently large to show the topic. There is then an option to download a larger and better quality photo by clicking on the displayed photograph.

Detail In some cases there is an option to view a photo which zooms in on some detail of the larger photographs. This is preferable to the full-size originals which would have been several hundred kilobytes in size for the same scale.

Scanning The photographs were scanned in from 6in by 4in, or 7in by 5in, prints using a 24-bit colour A4 scanner set to a resolution of 300dpi. The photos were then re-sized to a maximum height of 410 pixels, and then a small amount of software sharpening was applied.

Camera equipment The majority of photographs were taken using a 1981 Contax 139 35mm SLR using 100asa Fuji or Konica print film. The most commonly used lenses were a Tamron 35-70mm F3.5 zoom and a 28mm f2.8 Yashica ML wide angle. A small number of photos were taken on a 1995 Yashica 35mm T4 compact camera. The author also owns a 1953 Agfa Isolette 120 roll film camera which takes excellent photographs but was not suitable for transporting in the tank-bag of a motorcycle! The poor ol' Contax was dreadfully mistreated during four motorcycle tours from the UK to the Costa Blanca having to endure extreme temperatures in the black tank-bag and rough handling when out of it. Dust, sand, and thunderstorms were no problema. It never missed a shot and still functions perfectly - it was well worth the price premium over cheaper brands.
