Catapult on the approach to Castillo de Loarre

Just off the A132 about 30km from Huesca is the Castillo de Loarre. As you can see from the photograph this catapult points towards the castle.

Detail

The castle approach also has these rather crude stone carvings. What they signify I do not know.

Medinaceli

The town square at Medinaceli

The ancient town square of Medinaceli.

Detail

Medinaceli has the remains of its ancient arab town walls and the only remaining example of a Roman triple arch gateway in Spain. It sits on the edge of a plateau with lovely views and an unspoilt character.

Mejorada del Campo

The DIY cathedral at Mejorada del Campo

This is a view of the self-built cathedral of Justo Gallego Aden at Mejorada del Campo a few miles east of Madrid. You can read more about this in the Buildings and Ruins page.

Another aspect of Justo's cathedral. Apparently, he has added any architectural features that he likes, including parts of the White House.

Molina de Aragon

Castillo Torre Aragon

This pleasant town is situated on the N211 in a remote area of Spain. The main road goes from, well, nowhere really and ends at another nowhere. Its a good biking road with very little traffic. The sense of isolation is enhanced at the Castillo Torre Aragon because it towers above the town and appears to be ignored by the townsfolk.

Mora

The police station at Mora

The town of Mora is situated 32km south of Toledo and has an unusual police station. Most Spanish police stations are austere, but this one seems to have been heavily influenced by Moorish architecture.

Pyrennes

Lakeside north of Biescas

This small village just north of Biescas appears to be deserted because the houses seem to have no windows. There is no sign of life, either of people or vehicles.

Ruins at Segobriga

The ruins at Segobriga

The Roman ruins at Segobriga just off the N111 near Saelices have been excavated over a long period of time, although because the site wasn't fenced souvenir hunters have claimed many valuable pieces.
