Andromeda Lime

This Li150 had been stolen from the original owner and then 'written off' by the insurance company because the engine and a few body panels had been taken. I bought it via the insurance assessor because it made a perfect match for an un-modified 150cc engine which I had at the time.

My plan for this bike was to build it for the least cost and sell it at a profit. I was not intending this bike to be my own personal transport. To do this meant that it had to be tidy, eye-catching, but require the least outlay in terms of chrome work or assessories. I was going to use it as a 'test-bed' for some ideas I had regarding assessories and colour schemes. Anything which worked well would be included in a Lucifer Sam 4 respray or my next machine. Some of the chrome items on Sam 4 were getting abit tired and would need replacing soon.

I decided to give Andromeda a 'chopper' feel by buying a new seat and adding a new chrome 'megaphone' exhaust. This sounded reasonably fruity but not loud. The bike turned out exactly as planned - the photographs show that - but otherwise my plans turned topsy-turvey.

This was a lucky purchase for me, because soon after acquiring it I had Lucifer Sam 4 stolen, so I brought the construction of Andromeda Lime forward. This meant that I had a bike that I could use before recovering and rebuilding Lucifer Sam 4.

Photograph of Andromeda Lime after the respray I sprayed it black and bright lime green (similar to the green at the top of the page) and added a couple of new parts, such as the chrome megaphone exhaust and the chopper seat. The overall effect was quite eye-catching and after having had some enquiries I sold it quickly because I had an offer which I couldn't refuse.
Despite being only 15 months old when it was stolen the scooter trade were not really interested in buying the remains of this scooter. This was because it was a basic model and so I picked it up cheaply. I'm glad that they lacked the foresight to see what a bit of imagination could do to the resale value.
Photograph of Andromeda Lime after the rebuild, before the respray This photograph shows the bike immediately after I had put it on the road. I needed to get it road-worthy quickly because Lucifer Sam 4 had been stolen, so the paint job had to wait.
I was going to name this bike Astronomy Lime after the Pink Floyd track 'Astronomy Domine' but I decided that Andromeda sounded more mysterious, and slightly spooky. Despite the relatively poor performance of this bike, and despite it being built as a stop-gap, I was in two minds whether to sell or not. It was a bike that looked and felt 'right' somehow, and I liked it very much. I loved the name and I loved the colour scheme, and had it been an SX200 I would have kept it. But I was a performance fan, so I had two plans at the time - replace the engine with a larger one, or start afresh. I decided to start again by rebuilding Lucifer Sam 4 (after it had been recovered in pieces) with a new frame. This was then to become the un-named Blue & Yellow.
Hand-coloured photograph of Andromeda Lime I've had a bit of fun by colouring in the black and white photograph that you see at the top of this page. This is a pretty good representation of the finished bike. Hmm. They say that a man's car reflects his personality. Well, if that's the case then I shudder to think what this scooter says about me!
