Traditional Japanese Torigate

About This Site

For those of you who want to build one, but think it too difficult, this site was originally constructed entirely without the aid of special web authoring software.

After buying a book on HTML 4 and using mainly MSnotepad, I had the basic site up and running within six days with no prior experience.

It has since been improved, especially as regards download time with the advice and help of one or two people I feel privileged to be able to call friends.

There is still a lot to do, but to date, everything appears to be working!

Umaremasu, my nickname, was chosen as a result of searching through my Japanese dictionary to find a suitable screen name.

It is the Japanese verb "to be born" or "I am being born" reflecting my feelings of inadequacy in IT as a relative newbie on the net, compared to all the techies in their twenties.

I have felt a deep affinity with oriental culture and philosophy for many years, particularly with Japan and even spent some time studying the language, with limited results.

I hope you will take the time to wander through the pages and sign the guest book, perhaps even sending me an e-mail with your comments, and then maybe return and investigate some of the Japanese links.

If you happen to become sufficiently interested in the country to want to visit it, and you have plenty of cash to spare, you might even contact me, to take me along with you. ;-)

Hopefully over the months, the Japanese content will be expanded to reveal the culture more deeply.
