Music

Well, so far I have resisted the temptation to include here several short mp3 extracts fron Queen's Greatest Hits, but already you may have guessed I am a big Queen fan. I have most of their albums on vinyl, but as yet, have never got around to duplicating them all on cd.
The ticket shown above has been kept as a momento for many years and is something I would be quite upset to lose. To see Queen live was one of my all time "highs".

However, as a typical piscean, my music taste is very wide, and I have CDs in my car ranging from opera and classical to Memories Of Greece.
Apart from Queen, I love most sixties music, and general rock.

I find classical music very relaxing, although I prefer orchestral to opera when listening to recordings. Personally I prefer opera live, apart from the popular arias usually included in compilations, as the staging is a major part of the production.

Original Blues also features amongst my collection, rubbing covers with Cher, The Beach Boys, Status Quo, Clannad, Adiemus and Chris Rea!
In addition, I am quite into various "ethnic" sounds such as Peruvian pipe, and oriental and Indian music but never manage to indulge myself by buying any of these types of recording as my husband hates it.

One recent discovery I have made is an artist called Simon Lees. Simon was Guitarist Of The Year in 1998, and 1999, and I came across some "tasters" from his CD available for mp3 download in a site I was browsing through. I have since brought the CD and Simon has very kindly allowed me to put extracts from some of the tracks in here for general download (see below).
If anyone is interested, They can e-mail Simon Lees direct for more information.

Five all time favourite recordings:

  • Bohemian Raphsody - QUEEN
  • Whiter Shade of Pale - PROCUL HAREM
  • You've Lost That Loving Feeling - The RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS
  • Piano Concerto #1 in bflat minor - TCHAIKOVSKY
  • Nessun Dorma (from Turandot) - LUCIANO PAVAROTTI

MY WORLD, by Simon Lees
Short extracts in mp3 format from some of the tracks are available here to download.
"Playing Truant is the song that originally put Simon in the grand final of the GOTY competition way back in 1994. Simon's song Wholey Grail got him the second place in 1995, but it wasn't until 1998 that he finally took the title with Crab Racing"
