This may be the boring bit!

I had worked in textiles for a long time, starting in a colour matching laboratory in my teens, going out into the factory in a supervisory liaison capacity, until I was made redundant in the 80s. At that time, I couldn't drive, and I must point out here, my husband still holds that opinion. Since the company we both worked for had closed, and as there were no textiles jobs nearby, I came out of textiles for a few years and re-entered eventually, to gain a lot of experience in finished examination, quality control and customer liaison.

In 1996 I hit a high and a low in my life, within a week. We attended my elder daughter's wedding in New York, and I came back to find the company I had been working for had "downsized" with me as one of the shrinkages! At that time the only jobs available were laboratory juniors, so after some thought, I decided that my experience in Quality Control and Customer Liaison could be put to use independently, and I started up Texliaise

I was very lucky from the start, and found I am far happier working for myself rather than having to deal with internal office politics. The downside of being an individualist is that you can never aspire to becoming a true "team member", something necessary in these days of modern corporate methods!

I have now been in business for nearly four years, and can recommend that anyone else with the "urge" at least "tries it". The work is hard at times, with a lot of travelling (my driving is a lot better these days) and weekend working, but a lot of fun.

TEXLIAISE now has it's own website, and you can go directly there using the link on my links page.
