These pages offer an insight into the old Great Northern Hi-Line that runs across northern Montana, parallel to the border with Canada and Highway 2. Today BNSF intermodal, merchandise and unit grain trains cross the great expanse of Big Sky country. Amtrak interupts the freight action twice per day with the Empire Builder running between Chicago and Seattle / Portland.

In the summer of 1999 several locations east of the Rocky Mountains were visited and the galleries showing BNSF in transition with numerous Heritage I and II livery C44-9Ws and an assortment of Burlington Northern and Santa Fe pre merger locomotives and liveries.
