Clinton has always been a railroad town. The Chicago and NorthWestern railroad had a major car shop facility here and ADM have a series of plants which provide a major source of railroad traffic. New Pics Here The Mississippi river runs past the eastern edge of town and once the railroad has crossed the river into Clinton it passes the old depot. The line then goes through a series of yards and past the old Car Shop. At the western end of town is a loco servicing facility and a crew change point for the Union Pacific. East of Clinton crews run through into Chicago. The I & M RailLink interchanges with UP at Clinton and several trains per day can be seen on the I & M line with some interesting motive power. The railfan can observe operations near the old depot at 5th Avenue and 11th Street. There is a good view of the curve which takes the line past the depot and around to the Mississppi bridge. To the west of town there is an overbridge near the crew changeover point which offers a gret view of the action although photographic opportunities can sometimes be limited. |
