Havre, Montana, is half way for Amtrak’s Empire Builder train between Chicago and Seattle. Locos are refuelled here to complete the journey.

BNSF has a maintenance facility which is home to the many C44-9Ws used on the line. Power is often changed or added here to increase the horsepower for westbound trains that have to tackle the Rocky Mountains.
